As Paul continues to instruct the Thessalonian church, he calls them to encourage each other with the truth of Christ's certain return. Christ's return encourages us that one day all Christians from all of history will be joined together with him in his kingdom. Christ's return also encourages us to live in readiness, as in the light and not in the darkness.
